Brenda Martinez![]() Olympic runner, Brenda Martinez has been a major influence on the IEC, cheering on the future stars from the Inland Empire, as well as a runner in our initial Invitational. She was an Olympic semi-finalist in the 1500 meter run, the Silver medalist at the outdoor World Championships in the 800 in 2013, and was also the anchor on the World Record setting Distance Medley Relay! A big thanks goes out to her and New Balance for donating all of those shoes that were on the race trophies. Click here for more on her background and to follow her training.

The return to Guasti Regional Park was met with cheers by the an overwhelming majority of the spectators, coaches, and runners. We enjoyed perfectly cool temperatures that produced fast times from the various races. On the Girls side, Rylee Blade from Santiago, Mackenzie Browne from JW North and Janelle Avilez from Etiwanda battled for 2.25 miles. Rylee and Mackenzie began pulling away slightly at that point while the amazing pack from Rancho Cucamonga chipped away at their lead. Rylee Blade ended up as Inland Empire Champion in an outstanding sub 17min performance, 16:55.9 and Mackenzie finishing a couple of ticks behind in 16:57.7. Janelle Avilez, living up to her pre-race billing ran a smart 17:11.7 Madilyn Siana, Nicole Alfred, Braelyn Combe (Fr), Jaden Miura and Malia Reinhold (Fr) from Rancho Cucamonga finished within 15 seconds of each other (17:13.7 to 17:28.4) with Marjourie Lopez 17:26.2 from Shadow Hills squeezing in the middle of the RCHS pack. RCHS was easily the Inland Empire Champion, scoring a low 32 points. Check out the girls' Sweepstakes results.
